2025 Accomplishments

Dedicated to animal welfare, Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League strives to make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners. Through our initiatives, we have distributed 13,400 lbs of pet food at our monthly food pantry, facilitated low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for 115 pets, vaccinated 57 pets at our rabies clinic, and coordinated transport and adoption of 21 shelter pets.

Our Story

Concerned by the reasons why cats and dogs are ending up in local animal shelters, BRAWL set out to address the needs of the community in an effort to keep pets and people together.  The first project was to establish a working partnership with the local food bank to distribute pet food to families in need.  One day per month, BRAWL volunteers distribute pet food along side the food bank volunteers.  BRAWL also serves as a resource for low cost spay/neuter services, providing information about clinics in the area.  When funds are available, subsidies are offered to enable residents of Patrick County an affordable means to have their animals spayed and neutered in an effort to reduce the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.  Future goals include obtaining a transport vehicle to shuttle pets to spay/neuter appointments, a medical assistance program to help pet owners with costs associated with a veterinary emergency, low-cost rabies clinics, and a program that provides free collars and tags.
